Bages is a stepping stone away from Narbonne - and is an excellent place to visit, to sample the lovely restaurants with views over the Etang to the noble cathedral of Narbonne. Le Portanel - is well recommended - ask for the table with the view its the best in the house! Also try La Table du Pecheur, which has a good sized room and an excellent menu. Don't miss the village cafe - Les Beaux Arts - which is colourful and friendly. Take in the art galleries - including the lively L'etang d'art gallery which always seems to have perky exhibitions to excite the eye, as well as the La Maison des Arts, which apart from the eclectic work on show (7-9 exhibitions a year) has a lovely view of the Etang. Walking is a must in these parts - visit the 13th century church of St Martin.
